Web Designer

A web designer is responsible for the layout, visual appearance and usability of a website. This role requires a combination of good programming and design skills.

A good web designer will work closely with a client and ask the right questions: why is the site required? who will the target audience be? who are the leading competitors? A web designer should ultimately produce a design that will be appealing to the target user, have a logical and intuitive navigation system and all the features required.

Every web designer will create web pages using a combination of coding languages, such as HTML and XHTML, CSS, Javascript, Actionscript, ColdFusion, .Net, Flash, or software development programs, such as Dreamweaver and Visual Studio.

The web designer will also be responsible for deciding which text, colours and backgrounds to use and for page layouts, button positions, links and pictures.

A web designer may use multimedia features like sound, animation and video. Each web designer will also test the site for functionality in different browsers and at different resolutions.
